GRAND FINALE Kubuli Carib Canoe Race

This year’s Grand Finale event in Soufriere topped last year’s – and that had been the biggest crowd yet! Thousands of people turned out for this signature event, the closing of Dive Fest 2008.

The day got off to an early start with beach fun and bumper boat rides from Green Island Adventures. The vendors were set up early and the scent of fish broth wafted along the bayfront, tempting revellers to delicious red snapper broth and other sumptuous offerings from this popular fishing village.

Under clear skies and Dominica’s brilliant sunshine, the Races kicked off at 2:30. A fun-filled afternoon saw eighteen teams compete. Dominica’s business houses were well-represented as the battle to become “Champion of the Seas” got underway.

Defending Champs Cable & Wireless came out in full force. Although they had some tough competition, they were able to retain their status and claim the trophy once again in 2008. Congratulations to 1st Place Winners Cable & Wireless and to all the brave rowers who participated in this year’s event.

That makes two years in a row for them! Only Dominica Brewery & Beverages (Kubuli) has ever won the Championship three years running.

Kubuli Carib Canoe Race – Dive Fest Grand Finale at Soufriere – Sunday, July 16th 2007

Dive Fest’s Grand Finale Event was held in Soufriere Sunday, staged from the beach in front of Nature Island Dive.

Despite a rainy start to the day, the 2007 boat races were very well attended. Sixteen Corporata Teams and five Private Teams registered to take part in the competition.

The Race for the Trophy

Last year’s Corporate Team Champs Kubuli were eager to win another trophy, but the competition was fierce and they could not hang on in the home stretch, coming in second in the Final Round to the newly crowned champs for 2007: Team Cable & Wireless.

Kubuli Carib Canoe Race at Soufriere – Sunday, July 16, 2006

This year’s Kubuli Carib Canoe Race was a great success, 20 teams battled for supremacy and the right to claim the trophy for 2006. This years winner, the first team to ever “threepeat” was Dominica Brewery, despite a strong challenge from second place “Team NDC” and third place finishers “Domlec”. Winning teams claimed cases of Kubuli from United Distributors Ltd, cell phones from Cable and Wireless, drums of fuel from National Petroleum, Soca Rum from Belfast Estates and other great prizes.

The crowd that cheered them on was one of the biggest ever and with good music, fresh fish and Kubuli flowing the vibes were excellent.

This brings to an end a hugely successful Cable and Wireless Dive Fest 2006, organized and presented by The Dominica Watersports Association. Until next year.
